somewhere

somewhere

POLLY had a sneaky afternoon off this week and blissed out in the Sofia Coppela film SOMEWHERE ...

You'll find a good read about this under ground talent in the latest VOGUE.  Director of other art house movies The Virgin Suicides, Lost Translation, Marie Antoinette & !oh! a Miss Dior mini film commercial. Married to the lead singer of The Phoenix.  Daughter of Godfather director, Francis Ford Coppela - it's easy to see why this name causes a media stir.

Anyhoos ... the film is a collection of beautiful, interesting & mostly off beat angles and shot concepts.  A really, really loose plot makes it the sort of film you need to let wash over you ... a bit like music or post modern dance ... it doesn't need to make sense, you just need to appreciate it.

polly went to india

polly went to india

POLLY went AWOL for December ... swapping Christmas craziness for an Indian adventure ...

And an adventure it was.  Cold showers, BIG mosquitos, cutie cute Indian kiddies, bargain silk saris (hello $30 for 8m of hand sequinned silk?) and many bindis later, India is a must do global girl travel experience.

But all together now ...

1.  I will never complain about anything ever again

2.  I will never complain about anything ever again

3.  I will never complain about anything ever again

Koltata craziness, I miss you ...

hey wild fox

hey wild fox

POLLY has been on the lookout for a new denim option for a while now ...

Wanting to find the elusive combination of great cut, great wash, cult brand and price ... dreams do come true with WILDFOX.

From their website ...

WILDFOX COUTURE is an American Vintage-inspired women'trade;s knitwear brand. Combining great style and unsurpassed quality, Wildfox has quickly gained a following amongst celebrities, trendsetters and top retailers worldwide.

Childhood friends Emily Faulstich and Kimberley Gordon are the creative force behind Wildfox. Inspired by sleepovers, beautiful books, fairies, dreams, vintage t-shirts and their friendship, the young designers gave birth to a brand based on love and having fun! Things had gotten too serious in the world of fashion, and it was time for a change. They created their t-shirts for every person, soft, baggy, bright and fun.

Together with musician Jimmy Sommers as CEO and President of Wildfox the brand was officially established in Los Angeles in 2006. Today, the girls spend their time visiting vintage shops and working out of their Silverlake-area design studio - where they ew their hearts on their sleeves and spread peace and love through design.

Everygirls dream!

You'll start to find WILDFOX at the POLLY from December xx

love the choices

love the choices

My My!  It's been quite the debate on the POLLY facebook of late!

Comments and opinions have been flying nearly as fast as the new We Are Handsome cozzies!

FB is such an interesting forum - giving the public the opportunity and freedom to speak, comment, debate ... a good thing in most circumstances.

I so love the POLLY facebook for always being so positive and FUN!  We have the best customers - always liking, saying positive things about the pretty dresses and shopping up a storm - we love sharing because of this!

But yesterday!  Sheesh!  It really got a bit ugly on the PFB...

I was soooo sad (seriously, I had a short of breath, little tear in my eye, big swallow) when I read such negative and sharp comments posted by 'fans?' about us supporting the likes of anorexia.  Full on comments were flying, including the opinion that we should be ashamed of ourselves and our marketing choices ...

Wow.  It is soooo interesting how people can have such different opinions!

I am SO passionate about POLLY being a positive space for all.  Our shoppers, our team, our designers, everyone.  So my heart was so heavy to feel that this wasn't happening ...

When I see that picture, I think 'WOW, it is CUTIE CUTE!!  How much fun are denim bikinis!!?  And pinky permed hair ... brave and rad".  Truthfully, before the comments started flying, I hadn't even focused on the girls body ... She's the model - how is that even relevant to me?  I am a shopper - I buy clothes, not the girl wearing them!??  So confused ...

Anyhoos, the whole thing was just making me sad and but then I read this little paragraph and it reminded and INSPIRED me that I always have a choice in how I communicate!

I read ...

You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.

I learnt ...

1.  I have freedom of expression - I am soooo lucky!

2.  The best form of expression is loving and kind expression

3.  When I express, I can ask my self "Is this expression loving and kind?"

4.  Participating in negative commentary hurts both me and others

5.  I have choices

And that is what I have to say about that.  Love M xx

hello cameo

hello cameo

After a blitz instore debut, Cameo high summer has just landed and is just about to be unpacked!

Eee!

Just love a label that 'plays her own game'.  With the common trend in Summer being sorbets and florals, Cameo has walked a different path of camel and navy for a colour palette and sharp collars & skirt lines for shape.

The tiny tiny pleating they are working with is much fun also.  Love this fabric in their cropped singlet and oversized t shirt dress.

Suggest being fast for this delivery!

POLLY welcomes the beautiful creations of EMMA MILIKINS into store!

Starting at POLLY Brisbane and heading up the coast, POLLY shoppers will get to perve in person at the hand crafted creations of EMMA MILIKINS.

I'm sure all independent designer fans will be aware of EMMA and her work - she was the founder of LOVE FROM LUCY - the cutie cute beach boutique; infamous for supporting the development of independent designers and the radical instore art installations - um, sand/fish display, green lawn and twigs, to name a few.

The multitalented creative also has a knack for jewellery design.

2009 saw these amazing headpieces swan down the young designers runway at RAFW Sydney.  Styled back with tulle maxi skirts, leather flip skirts, bare feet and bird cages - she send stylists everywhere into a FRENZY and the pieces (hello 2010) have only just become available for purchase.

And who's the lucky buyer!  POLLY!!

So ... check your POLLY for when they will be arriving ON TOUR and stay glued online as they !!!MAY!!! be available for purchase!
